IN a bid to raise awareness on various programs adopted by the government and to improve effective service delivery, the staff of both Chambers of Parliament, yesterday began an induction course on government programmes and how they work.

According to the Director General of Communication and Outreach in the Parliament, Augustin Habimana, the course will provide a linkage between government programs and the role of the Parliament and also analyse and understand the progress made so far towards their implementation.

"The parliament has clearly indicated that to effectively do their work, parliamentarians   require the technical assistance of qualified and well trained staff that is aware of all government programs,” Habimana said.

"We hope that by the end of the training, all of them will have understood the purpose of various programs adopted by the government.”

The participants will train on Vision 2020, Public Sector Reform, decentralisation policy framework, Human Capital Development Strategy, Long Term Investment Strategy among others.

According to Habimana, after training, the Parliamentary staff will be able to play a bigger role in contributing to the development of the nation.

"One of the best ways to ensure that they are able to assist Parliamentarians in their daily duties of legislating and overseeing government programs, is to raise the awareness about various government programs,”

This induction course is being conducted by several local experts with extensive knowledge and experience in the field of economic development and Rwandan government programs.
