NGOMA -A man stabbed her wife to death on Monday, bringing an end to their turbulent relationship, police have confirmed.

Cyprian Ntamuhanga, 60, allegedly killed Marceline Ntamitondero, 37, a mother of four at 8 pm in the couple’s house. The incident took place in the village of Buriba, Rukira sector, Ngoma district.

According to the Rukira Sector Executive Secretary, Bosco Rutagengwa, the suspect’s neighbours handed him to Kibungo Police Station.

Rutagengwa said: "The couple has been living a turbulent marriage characterised by heavy drinking and promiscuity…an argument ensued between them during which he stabbed her with a knife.”

The suspect, the police said, is in custody while the knife believed to have been used in the incident had been recovered and handed over to police  as evidence.

Pierre Habonima, one of the area residents who arrived at the scene immediately after the killing, said, "The woman was stabbed multiple times in the upper body but two wounds just below her left breast could have been the fatal ones,” he said.

"The man accused his wife of infidelity …but killing her was not the solution. Imagine he stabbed her with a knife and followed her to a  banana plantation where she had gone to hide where he further hacked her to death with a machete,” another resident who did not wish to be named  said.
