KIGALI - The Kigali City Director for Communications, Bruno Rangira, has said that plans are underway to install street lights and a proper drainage system around the city, as a way of ensuring the safety of people and their property.
According to Rangira, the poor drainage system has led to the destruction of buildings in the city.
"We are creating drainage systems to channel running water, which wasn’t the case before, so that no water escapes to destroy people’s property,” he said.
Rangira added that all new roads the city is constructing will have street lights.
"For example, the road network of Kacyiru - KBC – city centre will be lit not later than the 3rd of next month,” Rangira said.
Some of the new roads being constructed include the Kanombe and Nyamirambo roads.
According to Rangira, the City will also replace the broken lights before the end of the month.
A recent security meeting hosted by the City council recommended that all commercial buildings in the city centre have adequate lighting to ensure security.
