KARONGI - Residents of Karongi district have been challenged to embrace the culture of saving by joining savings and cooperative societies as a way of significantly improving their economic welfare.

The call was made yesterday at the closure of a 2-day sensitization workshop in which a total of 140 residents received training on the importance of saving and investing in profitable businesses.

The workshop was conducted under the USAID  unding in conjunction with Caritas-Rwanda. "It is very important and useful to practice the culture of saving because this is one way of guaranteeing a long term economic independence.

After saving the money through cooperative societies, you can then invest such investments  in long-term beneficial projects,” Eugene Uwizeye, a Caritas official in charge of family affairs said.

He explained that the training programmes is argeting over 900 people. Most of the trained residents who talked to The New Times expressed satisfaction and willingness to engage in developmental activities.

"Such training sessions are of significant importance because they equip us with practical skills of improving personal social and economic welfare,” Thierry Turamyumuremyi, one of the participants observed.
