ELECTIONS for the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have now been scheduled for Thursday.

The elections were initially scheduled for Saturday, but were postponed following unresolved complaints raised by some candidates.

Confusion had surrounded the elections after a court injunction and calls for its adjournment last Thursday.
According to a communiqué released by the NFF, all petitions will now be dealt with before Thursday.

The NFF has been dogged by problems since the country’s dismal performance at the World Cup in South Africa when Nigeria was eliminated after managing only a draw against South Korea in the group stage.

The former President Sani Lulu and his deputy were both impeached by the board.

Regional FA elections which were meant to be held in the country before the national elections have still not taken place.

A statement by the Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee of the NFF Barrister Chris Green, who is also the Chairman of Rivers State football Association, said a new congress will hold on Wednesday, before elections the next day.

The statement also thanked the Nigerian Government for not interfering in the running of the NFF, particularly in the electoral process.

A Fifa observer Primo Corvaro, who was in Abuja to monitor the proceedings, said everything had gone according to Fifa rules.

Meanwhile, the ratification and appointment of Samson Siasia as the new coach of the Super Eagles is still on hold, according to the Technical Committee of the NFF.

Talks have stalled over the past week allegedly because of Siasia’s wage demands.
