Singapore Youth Olympic Games
Boxing, Light fly category (48kg)
H. Matusi (RWA) lost to Z. Hoorboyev (UZB) 1:7
IT was a forgettable outing for Rwanda in the inaugural Singapore Youth Olympic Games as the country failed to snatch a medal.
The country’s final push for a medal rested on Haziza Matusi but the young boxer failed after losing to Uzbekistan champion Hoorboyev Zohidjon 1:7 on points during Saturday’s preliminary round.
Matusi trailed Zohidjon in all the three rounds; first round (0:1), second round (0:1) and third round (1:5).
Matusi now joins Marie Claudine Iradukunda, Potien Ntawuyirushintege and Jacqueline Murekatete in the spectator stands.
Last week, Iradukunda had little to offer as she failed to beat the qualification time in the 50m free- style category after using 39.62seconds.
Meanwhile, Murekatete had herself to blame after getting disqualified in the 3000m race on rule 163.3b for straying from her lane while Ntawuyirushintege finished 11th in the same distance after clocking 8.17.99. Ethiopian Fekru Jebesa won the race in a time of 8.12.65, Eritrea’s Abrar Osman finished second (8.12.80) while Hicham Sigueni returned a personal best time of 8.12.90 to finish third.
The team returns August 29.
