Editor,
I wish to respond to a letter written to the editor in the 19th September 2010 issue of the New Times. The author, Bahati Patrick raised some issues about the repairs on the Kacyiru road. He wanted to know which company is doing the works.
A renowned Chinese company called China Road and Bridge Construction Corporation (CRBC) was contracted to rehabilitate 36 KM in Kigali city. These roads include among others; Kanombe road, Nyamirambo road, Yamaha-Kacyiru Road, Ministries-KBC Road and Prince House-Sopetrade Road.
All the work on these roads is to be completed before June 2011. This project is constructing the most durable roads-with two layers of tarmac and with a lifespan of over 30 years.
The works supervision is done by a Madagascan company called Bekiady SARL working jointly with a local company called Bekiady Individuale. Kigali City and the Ministry of Infrastructure also follow up the project and they are satisfied with the work.
In order to beat the upcoming rainy season, the rehabilitation works have mainly concentrated on the demolition of the existing layers on the old roads and the construction and laying on of the first layer of tarmac.
So, that is the reason why they have moved on to other roads before completing the works on Kacyiru-Yamaha Road.
As you may have noticed all these roads have been open to traffic during rehabilitation works and where it has not been possible alternative road diversions have been provided and the public has been duly informed on different radio stations.
We request the residents of our city to bear with the unavoidable inconveniences caused by these works. We also appreciate the concern raised by your reader.
