THE government of China yesterday saw off another batch of Rwandan students who will be going to China for further studies. 66 students have, so far, left for studies in China this year.

The scholarships are among the various education programmes between the Rwandan government and the government of China.

Speaking at the send off ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Sun Shuzhong, congratulated the students who are going for both Masters and Bachelors programmes and told them that their going was a great opportunity to them and their country.

"As you step outside Rwanda and leave for China soon, you will embark on the next lap of your life journey in a different new world. There, you will learn and develop new knowledge and broaden your vision,” said Shuzhong.

"I hope that with whatever you will learn from China, each one of you will make great contribution to your nation’s Social and Economic transformation in the years to come, but in the mean time, you will serve as a bridge for the association of the two peoples.”

Shuzhong said that Human resource development is one of the most important areas China has engaged in helping African countries.

In recent years, it has trained 30,000 African technicians.

In Rwanda, China has tremendously contributed to education whereby more than 100 students are sent to the country every year since 2005 for either studies or training.

China has also build two Primary schools and set up the Confucius Institute where the Chinese language is taught.

Speaking to The New Times, Steven Musoni one of the beneficiaries of the scholarships, said that it was a privilege for him to study in a developed country like China because the enormous knowledge he will get, will help him to take part in the development programmes on which Rwanda has embarked.
