Semi finals (yesterday)
Rayon 4-0 Marines
Kiyovu 1-0 APR
KIGALI - Jean Marie Ntagwabira proved to his former employers (APR) just how good a coach he is by powering SC Kiyovu to the final of the 2010 Primus Cup.
The former APR, Atraco, AS Kigali and Amavubi assistant coach was the architect of Kiyovu’s hard fought 1-0 win in yesterday’s second semi-final clash against APR who lifted a record 11th league title last season.
A 45th minute header from center back Marcel Lomami was all the old giants needed to end APR’s hopes of retaining the pre-season trophy.
The victory also went down well for Rodriquez Murengenzi, Fuadi Ndayisenga, Eric Serugaba, Jabir Mutarambirwa and Arafat Serugendo who are all APR rejects.
Kiyovu’s win was down to their cool temperament and good organisation at the back. The two center backs Lomami and Berch Bamuma made life impossible for APR’s strikers Emmanuel Sebanani and Kipson Atuheire (on trials from SC Villa).
Kiyovu also did well in the midfield were Hussein Sibomana and Murengenzi over shadowed and out-muscled the likes of Jean Baptista Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iranzi and Marco Zuma.
Trailing by a goal at half time, APR’s assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana brought on Yannick Wapatalea for Niyonzima, Albert Ngabo for Jean Bosco Uwacu and Jean Marie Rukundo for Zuma but the army side still could not find a break through.
Kiyovu will now play bitter rivals Rayon Sport in Saturday’s final at Nyamirambo stadium. The blues sailed to the final after a convincing 4-0 win over Marines.
Tanzanian import scored a brace while Jerome Sina and Pappy Gasana netted the other goals.
Prior to the final, APR and Marines will clash in a battle for third place.
Rwf5m is at stake for the winner and runners-up while the third and fourth teams will pocket a consolation Rwf3m each.
