I am writing to express my disappointment with Kigali City Council’s failure to get a master plan for Kigali City.

Kigali has been known for its cleanness but, this deficiency of a master plan is bound to ruin both investment and the sanity of Kigali. I think the staff at the city council would not wish to see our city become disorganized like other cities in the East African region.

A master plan can prevent destruction of people’s business buildings, and also allow for an area to be set apart for residential houses. It would also prepare Kigali for highly advanced infrastructure.

I bet no one would want to have his house demolished in the near future because of constructing it in the wrong place. The pace of development at which we are moving should not give space for destruction.

I think the Rwanda Bureau of Standards {BRS] should set standards for sewage plants around the country. The high influx of new buildings, including hotels could make Kigali’s environment a nightmare if these standards are not set.

Let’s hope this master plan will be in place by the end of January as they announced. Otherwise we should give utmost care to the environment and defend it where necessary.
