JACKIE Mugabo, a Rwandan gospel artist based in England says it’s her turn to support the poor using her talent.

"I came to perform in the charity concert, to support the ‘Bye Bye Nyakatsi Project’, and raise funds to build modern houses for the deprived people in Bugesera District,” Jackie told The New Times.

Together with various local gospel artists, including Gabi Kamanzi and Aline Gahongaire, the songstress will entertain crowds in a concert that will be held at Serena Hotel, Kigali, on August 29—entrance fee is Rwf5000 and Rwf10, 000, VIP.

Gospel music fans and well-wishers will have a chance to participate in the fundraising and, all proceeds will benefit the poorly housed in the Eastern Province.

The singer, who jetted in early this month, said she is working closely with local churches and the Diaspora to make the concert a success.

After the successful completion of  the ‘One Dollar Campaign Project’ (an initiative to help the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi), members of  the Rwanda Diaspora have embarked on yet another project ‘Bye Bye Nyakatsi Project’ to get rid of grass thatched houses, as the project name implies, not later than this year.

These houses will be built in a model village and named ‘Bugesera Diaspora Village’.
 ‘Bye Bye Nyakatsi Project’ was born on December 13, 2009 and is a community development and poverty alleviation project.

Esperance Uwimbabazi, a project official said the entire project will cost up to Rwf2.5 billion.

Uwimbabazi further praised Rwandans for their support. "Rwandans have embraced the culture of supporting the needy. We don’t mind how much we will rise from the concert, but the most important thing is that Rwandans can now support each other without begging foreigners.”
