RUBAVU /NYABIHU - There was low turn-up of students at various primary and secondary schools in Rubavu and Nyabihu districts, as schools opened on Monday for the third term. 

Apart from GS Rambura Boys School, in Nyabihu District, where most students had reported, other schools visited by The New Times had few students.

The provincial education inspector, Gerald Rutali, blamed parents for delaying to send their children to school.

"We are inspecting the whole province, we have divided ourselves into teams and we will compile a report to be submitted to the Ministry of Education,” Rutali said.

At Ecole des Sciences de Gisenyi in Rubavu District, some students reported late in the afternoon at about 3:00pm.
The school director, Damien Sebaganwa, attributed the low turn up to delays in paying school fees.

At Lycee de Nyundo, more than 200 students were yet to report, according to school authorities.

While at Groupe Scolaire Sanzare and Ecole de Art de Nyundo, teachers said many parents had called to inform them that their children didn’t have transport.
