SENATOR Wellars Gasamagera, a member of the ICT Steering Committee in Parliament, has said that for the sector to prosper, there was need to improve on the ICT skills among Rwandans.
Gasamagera made the remarks, yesterday, during an exclusive interview with The New Times at Parliamentary buildings.
"As our country promotes ICT as a core tool for achieving our development strategy, there is need to foster human capacity in ICT,” he said.
He added that in a recent meeting in Kampala, Uganda, stakeholders from the region discussed emerging issues on Internet usage including broadband accessibility, cyber security, internet domain name management, as well as regional ICT human capacity development.
"In order to address the challenges that people face while using ICT, they have to be well-conversant with using the technology,” he noted.
He called upon the government to focus on the human capacity development in order to boost the use of ICT among the people.
Gasamagera called for the need to improve education levels in ICT to ensure that the country has well trained personnel to fill critical skills vacuum especially within this sector.
