Rwandan sides, APR and CSK (both men) made flying start to their 2010 Zone V championships’ campaign with wins over Urunani and UCU respectively. But APR ladies were humbled by Kenya’s Eagle Wings.
CSK thrashed hosts, Urunani 66-59 in their first game of the tournament on Sunday. The Ruganga based team took the first quarter 12-11 but the hosts rallied to take the second (16-13) and third (13-12). However, the Rwandan side had the last laugh after dominating the fourth quarter 29-19 hence wrapping the game 66-59.
Meanwhile, national men’s league champions, APR outplayed UCU of Uganda 67-27 in their opening game played last evening, while their sisters (APR women) lost 59-63 to Kenya’s Eagles Wings.
APR men’s team head Coach Cliff Owour, in a telephone interview from Bujumbura expressed his delight with the way his team handled their Ugandan opponents.
"The win was really important since it was our first game of the tournament, however, we have other tough games on the way especially one against COOP BANK of Kenya tomorrow (today),” noted the former Kenyan international.
The week-long tournament, which started on Sunday, will climax on Saturday, August 21.
