APR vying for group leadership in Primus Cup

Eleven-time national league champions, APR will be hoping to record a routine victory over minnows Musanze today at Ferwafa turf which will confirm them as Group A leaders in the ongoing Primus preseason Primus Cup.

The army side is tied with AS Kigali at the summit of the group with three points. This will be the military’s side second group match. They walloped AS Kigali 3-0 in the opening match. AS Kigali went on to beat Musanze 2-1 on Sunday in their second match.

The group’s winner will face the second placed side in Group D in the semi finals due on August 19 at Amahoro stadium.

In group B, Marines play Etincelles Rubavu in the Western Province a derby. Etincelles lost their opening match 1-2 to Amagaju while Marines beat the Southern Province side 3-0.

In Group C, La Jeunesse plays Rayon Sports this afternoon at Nyamirambo stadium. The Blues top the group with three points and four goals while La Jeunesse is at the bottom of the group with no point.

In Group D, SC Kiyovu plays Muhanga at Mumena stadium. A win for Jean Marie Ntagwabira’s team will comfortably earn them a commanding lead at the top of the group.

The tournament, which is being sponsored by brewing giants-Bralirwa to the tune of Rwf 35m features all top flight teams.

The Primus Cup is as a curtain raiser for next season which will start on September 10.
