Rwanda vs Uganda

RWANDA’S U-20 representatives face one of the toughest challenges when they clash with a solid Ugandan side in Group B of the Cecafa Youth tournament this afternoon in Asmara, Eritrea.

The junior wasps composed of U-17 players drawn from different football academies countrywide, take on a Ugandan side which has vast experience in the region and on the continent.

On their training camp held in Ghana, the Junior Wasps lost Liberty U-20 side 2-4 after suffering a humiliating 5-1 loss to Ghana’s Black Starlet.

They go into today’s match as minnows but the Uganda side should not take everything for granted because the youthful Rwandan team which has gained some experience may surprise them with their sleek and speedy football.

After today’s duel with their archrivals Uganda, the junior wasps are set to play Zanzibar on August 18 and Yemen two days later.

Meanwhile, on day two of the tournament, Zanzibar scored twice in the first quarter of the match to beat guest side Yemen 2-1 in a Group B match.

Ali Badru was on target in the seventh minute before Ali Othman made it 2-0 in the 24th minute from a counter attack.

Yemen dominated play but finding the target remained a problem until the 57th minute when Aiman Al-Hagri converted with a header.

Zanzibar played the final quarter hour a man less after Somalia referee Nur Mohamed sent off Saleh Hamad for unsporting behavior.

Somalia and Sudan played to a barren draw in a Group A match, also staged at the Asmara Stadium.

But Sudan were not dampened by the result promising to play even better in their remaining preliminary matches against Kenya (Tuesday), Eritrea (Thursday) and Tanzania (Monday next week).
