POLICE is hunting people suspected to have murdered a 22-year old man in Rusororo-Kabuga, Gasabo district, 15km from the city in an act suspected to be robbery.

Chris Hitayezu ,a first year student at Rukara College of Education, was killed on the night of Friday and his body was found by pedestrians in the morning near the popular kids’ park Bambino.

According to Eric Kayiranga the Police Spokesperson, Hitayezu, a resident of Rutoma, Musha Sector in Rwamagana could have been ambushed by robbers who fled with a new bicycle he had bought and some of his belongings.

"His body was found in the morning at about 5 AM. It looked like he first got into a fight with the killers before they overpowered him. He had wounds on his head and other parts of the body,”

"His shirt had also been torn off his body. There was also another shirt which wasn’t his on the side and an ID of another person. We will definitely base on that to begin investigations and find out who committed the heinous act,” the Police official said.

According to relatives, Hitayezu had paid a visit to his brother who lives in Nyamirambo, a Kigali suburb. He bought a bicycle and called his sister and told her she would be going back to Rwamagana on the bicycle.

It is suspected that the robbers ambushed him as he rode back home in the evening. According to the Principle of Rukara College, Cassian Muhire, the deceased was studying History, Geography and Economics and was paid for by AERG, the association of student genocide survivors.

"It is unfortunate; the country has lost a teacher and a great resource. He was still in his prime years and it is sad indeed that we lost him,” Muhire said.
He will be buried today in Rwamagana.
