KARONGI - The western provincial authorities yesterday thanked their residents for showing full commitment and support for the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) during the just concluded presidential elections.

During celebrations to mark RPF victory the Provincial Governor, Célestin Kabahizi, said that the participation and support of citizens during the polls is an indication of mature politics in Rwanda. He challenged residents to show similar commitment in the next seven years to the various Government programmes.

The Governor made the remarks after a football match between officials of Karongi district and the provincial leadership, that was played as part of the celebrations.

"All Rwandans deserve to be happy for the exemplary level of democracy that they have achieved by participating in the just concluded presidential elections. We have exhibited maturity which is an act that actually serves as commendable before other countries,” Kabahizi said.

In the just concluded polls the incumbent President Paul Kagame won massively sweeping 92.5 percent of the 1.9 million votes cast.

Most residents especially RPF supporters maintain that Kagame deserved a second mandate as  he has registered tremendous achievement during his first term   especially in the education, health and security sectors.

"As long as he continues the zeal , hard work and drive for prosperity for all Rwandans, there is no reason for me to stop supporting our president elect,” Richard Mugisha, a supporter vowed.
