MUHANGA – Residents of Muhanga District, Southern Province, yesterday, joined the rest of the country to celebrate Paul Kagame’s resounding victory in the just concluded presidential race.

They hailed Kagame for the tremendous achievements registered during his last seven-year mandate.

Those who spoke to The New Times expressed high hopes in Kagame’s ability to deliver his latest campaign promise of transforming the lives of the people.

"We have his word and we are behind his bid to improve our lives and make Rwanda a better place,” one resident stated.

The Mayor of Muhanga, Yvonne Mutakwasuku, referred to the election as historical and a sign that Rwandans know what they want.

Residents were also commended by their leaders for leading by example as the campaigns and the eventual election went on peacefully.

Meanwhile, the business community is pleased the Monday poll did not affect business operations.

"The election didn’t interrupt business at all; we voted and opened our businesses immediately after. That is very unusual considering the history of this country,” Vedaste Nzeyimana, a bar owner said.
