RUSIZI - Ntenyi Primary School in Rwimbogo, Rusizi district, on Tuesday celebrated its forty seven years of existence as a provider of educations services.
During the celebrations, the school donated over 30 goats to the poor and vulnerable people, as part of its outreach programme. Having recorded 86 percent pass in Primary Leaving Examinations in the past three years, the school also celebrated the commissioning of a newly constructed seven classroom block that saw a rise in its pupil enrolment.
"We started with less than 100 students, way back in 1963, but the school currently educates over 1,188 pupils,” said Alphonsine Nyirampakaniye, the school’s headmistress.
Ntenyi has also secured seven computers, with contribution from parents.
Administrators said they owed their achievements to the government policies currently in place.
Fabien Sindayiheba, the district Mayor, emphasized the need for joint role by parents and teachers in educating children.
Promising the district’s support, the mayor observed that education begins at home with constructive ideas from parents, which teachers help to develop among the students.
The school appealed to the government to help them build a computer lab and modern sanitation for both boys and girls.
