RWANDA has moved up two places to 111th position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Rwanda, which was placed on 113th, last month jumped two places and is jointly placed on 111th with Tanzania, who didn’t move any place.

Consequently, virtually all of the moves of note; whether up or down the ranking are due to points won in previous years dropping in value.

Rwanda is 28th on the African ranking and is tied on second position with Tanzania in the Cecafa rankings behind Uganda who moved up two slots to 69th in the world and 13th in Africa respectively.

Rwanda’s Group H 2012 African Nations Cup Qualifiers’ rivals Ivory Coast is placed 26 in the world and third in Africa, while Benin is placed 61st in the world and tenth in Africa.
Burundi dropped one place to 142nd in world and is 37th in Africa.

Egypt is the best placed African country in the top ten world ranking with 1053 points. The Pharaohs are eight places behind Spain which is the best ranked country in the world with 1888 points following the 2010 World Cup victory in South Africa a month ago. Egypt is ninth on the global rankings and leads the African rankings.

Meanwhile, Fifa has changed its ranking formula with games involving African teams getting a higher rating. It means African teams will get more points from games between each other.

In the past these games had been rated lowest in the formula used by football’s world governing body to rank international teams.

In the mean time a lack international games since the World Cup means there is very little movement in the rankings for the month of August.
