NOT BREAST-FEEDING

Theory:

Some studies suggest that women who breast-feed their babies may enjoy a slightly lower breast cancer risk, especially if breast-feeding is continued for as long as two years.

This could be because breast-feeding reduces a woman’s total number of lifetime menstrual cycles, lowering her lifetime exposure to the hormones oestrogen and progesterone.

Expert Comment:

Research has shown that the longer a woman breast-feeds, the lower her risk of cancer.
