KIGALI - THE Social Democratic Party (PSD) presidential candidate, Dr Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, yesterday congratulated President Paul Kagame upon winning the presidential polls that took place on Monday.

Ntawukuriryayo was one of the four contestants for the presidency. Others were PL’s Prosper Higiro and PPC’s Alvera Mukabaramba, the only woman in the race.

In a statement sent to media houses yesterday, Ntawukuriryayo and his family congratulated Paul Kagame for the confidence Rwandans have put in him once again to lead them for the next seven year term as president.
"I congratulate him and his family, and the whole Rwandan population and friends of Rwanda and wish them all the best,” reads part of the statement.

The PSD candidate also thanked members of his party and all Rwandans at large for peacefully participating in the whole electoral process.

Ntawukuriryayo had earlier on Monday said that as a democrat, he would accept the outcome of the elections.
"Elections were peaceful and transparent, so I would accept whatever comes out of these elections,” he said after he cast his vote on Monday.

Meanwhile appearing on National Television and Radio shortly after the provisional results were released by NEC, the PSD president Dr Vincent Biruta, also congratulated Kagame for the massive win and pledged to support his leadership.

Preliminary results announced by the NEC Chairman Chrysologue Karangwa on Tuesday showed that Kagame was winning massively with a 92.9 percent in 11 districts out of the 30.

The PSD candidate, Dr. Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, has 4.9 percent, Prosper Higiro from the Liberal party (PL) 1.5 percent and the PPC candidate, Dr Alvera Mukabaramba 0.7 percent.
