Voters were yesterday impressed by the decorations at all the polling centres across the country where they thronged in the wee hours of the morning to exercise their constitutional right to vote for the Presidential candidate of their choice.

Most of the polling stations were decorated in blue, yellow and green, the colours that make up the national flag while others used traditional decorations using locally fabricated materials like banana fibre.

The voting rooms were also well carpeted and at some of the centres, there was music calling upon Rwandans to freely vote to express their rights and democracy.

"It is my first time to vote in such a good atmosphere at a polling station, well decorated, no chaos and everybody happy with the environment,” said Innocent Nkusi, one of the voters at Muhima polling station in Nyarugenge District.
Voters began heading to polling stations as early as 4a.m, despite the fact that the sites were not due to open until 6a.m, and by midday the process had ended at most of the centres.

At some polling stations visited by The New Times, chairs had been organized for the voters to rest as they waited for their turn to cast their ballot.

"We voted comfortably here, we even have chairs to sit on. To me, this exercise has been wonderful. I have never witnessed it anywhere in Africa,” said Peter Kabanda another voter at one of the polling stations in Kigali City.
