Rwanda’s U-17 team suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to Ghana’s Black Starlet in an international friendly played at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra on Sunday.

This was first high profile international match for Rwanda’s youngsters selected from Amavubi, APR and SEC academies. Richard Tardy’s side conceded four goals in the first half.

Justin Mucyo scored Rwanda’s consolation in the second half but despite the heavy defeat, new coach Tardy was delighted with the his boys.

"This is was their first competitive match and we have learnt a lesson from this match. The team still lacks experience in playing against top profile nations but with time, they will do well, am very confident about that,” said Tardy.

The Junior Wasps return to action this evening as they face Amavubi Stars head cpach Sellas Tetteh’s former side Liberty FC before heading to Eritrea to participate in this year’s Cecafa Youth Development Cup set to start on August 14 in Asmara.

Ghana’s Black Starlets were using the match to prepare for the first leg of the African Under-17 Championships qualifier against Zambia.

Striker Nasiru Mohammed scored four goals on the day with John Nyamekye being the other scorer in the rout against 2011 African Under-17 championship hosts, Rwanda.
