ELEVEN time league champion APR added the ‘United We Stand’ trophy to their glittering trophy cabinet. They beat archrivals Rayon Sports 2-1 in the final played on Friday at Amahoro stadium.

The three-day tournament, which was organized by Sports and Culture minister Joseph Habineza in honor of RPF Presidential candidate Paul Kagme started on Wednesday and saw APR beat Kiyovu 3-1 in the opening game.

Bebeto Lwamba, Yannick Wapatareye and goal keeper’s coach Ramadhan Nkunzingoma, who was fielded by Eric Nshimiyimana due to lack of players.

Dady Birori scored the consolation goal for Kiyovu.

On the same day, Rayon Sports beat Etincelles 1-0. Juma Uwimana was the hero for the Blues.

The military side beat Etincelles 3-1 on Thursday to edge closer to wining the trophy. Yannick scored a brace while Bebeto scored the third goal. Claude Kiza scored the consolation goal for Etincelles.

With two victories, APR marched into the last day where they clashed against Rayon Sports for the top prize.

Both sides played some good attacking football in the first half, and only goals were lacking until APR’s stand-in skipper JP Mugiraneza broke the deadlock on the hour for his first goal of the pre-season. 

Malian midfielder Ismail Zuma, on trials at the military side added the second ten minutes later before Christian Mukiza pulled one back for Rayon but it wasn’t enough as APR started drew first blood against their biggest rivals going into the new season.

Etincelles and Kiyovu finished in third and fourth positions with three points each.
