THE Social Democratic Party (PSD) presidential hopeful, Dr Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, yesterday wrapped up his three-week long campaigns in Kigali City where he promised the residents a cleaner Kigali.

The PSD party members who numbered about 2,000 converged at Nyamirambo Stadium to listen to their candidate.

"If elected president of this country, I promise the people of Kigali that I will put in place enough infrastructures that are proportional to the development speed of our city,” said Ntawukuriryayo adding that a road will be constructed around the city to help provide more space for commercial activities in the city centre.

"This initiative will decrease the number of automobiles in the city centre hence creating a cleaner environment because of the less pollution.”

Ntawukuriryayo said that PSD has in its mandate a modern settlement plan, especially for the rural parts of the city, where modern habitations will be constructed.

Putting in place a proper city public transportation plan by building several bus terminals and erecting passenger shelters were among the promises made to the city dwellers.

The PSD candidate who has promised to double teachers’ salaries in a period of two years after being elected, told the crowd at Nyamirambo that he would also put much effort in improving the quality of education.

This, according to him, will allow the country to have a pool of knowledge which it can even export to other countries in form of expertise.

Speaking at the rally, the president of PSD, Vincent Biruta, lashed at the foreigners who are still defining Rwandans along ethnic lines and said that Rwandans no longer have time for such cheap divisionism.

"Rwandans know that democracy is rooted on ideas that build the country, they know the importance of peace and security, they know that voting well is voting those who love Rwanda and its people and those who have plans of sustainable development which is what PSD and its candidate stand for,” said Biruta.

He urged the party supporters to vote for the PSD candidate on Monday so that they can be able to put into action their good manifesto which is pro-people.
