A team of five cyclists is undergoing intensive training ahead of the Libya and Egypt championships scheduled for March.
The team is temporarily being handled by Faustine Mparabanyi; the national cycling federation technical director.
It is said that Jack Boyl (national coach) is still away on holiday but will join the cyclists as soon as he returns.
Although the event dates are yet to be confirmed, the federation has already drafted a training calendar for the cyclists.
"They (cyclists) have been given a training calendar to follow although the event dates are yet to be confirmed,” Mparabanyi said. The cyclists who have been training since January 3 have however criticised their training conditions. "It is a bit hard on us because we are training without adequate refreshments,” the trio of Adrien Niyonshuti, Nathan Byukusenge, and Rafiki Uwimana complained.
Abraham Ruhumuriza and Uwase Nyandwi who have been training in the Southern Province are set to link up with the trio any time soon.
"The federation’s new executive committee federation has not shown any support yet but we are optimistic that they will do a good job,” the cyclists continued. One of the new committee’s short-term goals is to open up a fully equipped office and propel the game to greater heights.
