RWANDA’S Under-20 team is ready to crash Congo Brazzaville when the two sides face-off in the return leg of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier this afternoon at Nyamirambo stadium.
Congo beat Rwanda 2-0 in the first leg played in Point Noir two weeks ago and now a huge task awaits the hosts, who must win by a three-goal margin 3-0 to be assured of participating in the final qualifying round.
Although the visitors go into today’s game as favorites to progress, the coach of the home side Sellah Tetteh has promised to turn tables on his opponents in search for early goals to get in control of the game.
"We have prepared sufficiently and we have to work harder tomorrow (today). I believe we will go through,” said Tetteh, who knows a thing of two about winning in this competition having led his native Ghana to both the African and World titles last year.
After seeing his youngsters score at will in the two build-up matches they played albeit against local oppositions, Tetteh is confident of getting the goals needed to go through.
The junior wasps demolished Ferwafa academy 4-0 before giving a football lesson to Primus league side AS Kigali 5-1 last week.
The team will be boosted by experienced Rayon Sports defender Aimable Rucogoza and APR striker Emmanuel Sebanani, who have been brought in to beef up the defense and striking departments.
Congo will be aiming to score an away goal and avoid giving Rwanda the number of goals they need to progress.
Their head coach Michel said that he is confident about his team’s chances of qualifying, "We hope we qualify because we are in better conditions than the first leg.”
"Rwanda will be required to score three goals. This is not a foregone conclusion for us, but we will do everything to qualify,” said Michel told this paper on Friday, the day he and his team set in Kigali.
The winner of the Rwanda-Congo game will face either Cameroon or Central Africa at final round of the qualifiers.
