With barely two days to the August 9 Presidential polls, several senior government officials have continued to rally support for incumbent President Paul Kagame to be re-elected for the next seven years.

One such top leader involved in marathon campaign rallies is Prime Minister Bernard Makuza.

After holding rallies in various parts of the Southern Province, yesterday the Premier was back in Huye District, at the National University suburb of Tumba to drum support for RPF candidate Kagame, a man he described as respectable, capable and visionary.

Donning a T-shirt and top with the portrait of Kagame inscribed on them, Makuza was received with thunderous applause by over a thousand Party supporters who had braved the lunchtime scotching sunshine.

Addressing the enthusiastic supporters, Makuza said that the RPF is for all Rwandans and that its candidate is for all Rwandans.

He said that the country had registered tremendous progress in several sectors because of the visionary leadership of the man at the helm.

"His visionary leadership gave direction to many and for many Rwandans, the last seven years have been a turning point,” Makuza said.

Highlighting some of the achievements registered in the last seven years of Kagame’s leadership, Makuza said that the number of people who subscribe to the universal health insurance; Mutuelle de santé, stand at over 90 percent, up from 7 percent in 2003.

He said that enrolment in primary school stood at about 1.5million in 2003, which has since then more than doubled.

"The National University of Rwanda had about 2,000 students but it currently boasts of about 12,000, Kagame’s policy is that Rwandans become literate so that they are in position to help the country in different domains,” the Premier said.

"We are lucky to be led by such a man of great intellect and honour, on the August 9 let us vote wisely, victory starts here.

At the rally, residents recounted how they were inspired by Kagame’s visionary leadership to devise schemes aimed at getting them out of poverty.

They applauded the One-Cow per poor family initiative which they said has helped them to earn some income and managed to keep their families healthy.
