The Rwandan Mufti, Sheikh Swaleh Habimana, has urged the Muslim community to vote wisely for the country to develop further over the next seven years.

Mufti Habimana was giving his sermons at a city centre-based mosque where hundreds of Muslims turned up for their Friday prayers.

"Everyone has a right to vote a candidate he likes but voting wisely without sentiments is a prerequisite in our holy book Quoran. You need a leader who is able, trustworthy and wise and who can safeguard your belongings,” Habimana said.

"Chapter 28:26 of the Quoran stipulates that we should have a good leader with strength and who is trustworthy; the one who will not be influenced by his relatives and will not fear his generals.”

He reminded the congregation that Chapter 55:55 of the Holy Book indicates that Joseph was allowed to lead Egypt for seven years of famine because he was able to safeguard citizen’s resources and he had wisdom.

Habimana told Muslims that there was a lot to celebrate in the passed seven years of President Paul Kagame’s regime.

"Under President Kagame, we have built this mosque using our own funds, built schools, and we have had a good relationship with Government which was never the case in the Habyarimana’s regime” the Mufti told Muslims.

He said that under Kagame’s leadership, Rwandan Muslims have enjoyed equal treatment as other believers.
