KARONGI - As Rwandans approach Monday’s presidential elections, youth in Karongi and Nyamasheke districts have reiterated the need to participate in the highly anticipated polls. “We as young people should lead in the advocacy for democracy and this can be done by fully participating in next week’s election process,” Olivier Muvala, a S6 student in Karongi district observed.
KARONGI - As Rwandans approach Monday’s presidential elections, youth in Karongi and Nyamasheke districts have reiterated the need to participate in the highly anticipated polls.
"We as young people should lead in the advocacy for democracy and this can be done by fully participating in next week’s election process,” Olivier Muvala, a S6 student in Karongi district observed.
Muvala was speaking during the pass out of over 500 students from Karongi and Nyamasheke districts, who had completed a 5-day solidarity camp (ingando) yesterday.
The training, funded by the USAID was conducted in conjunction with Caritas
Rwanda, targeting vulnerable secondary school students especially HIV orphans and those living with the virus.
Celestin Habimana, an official of Caritas in Karongi district, said that the 5-day program was aimed at equipping the students with more beneficial skills in order to guarantee them a brighter future.
"The basis of our intervention was premised on enabling the students to identify their talents and to exploit them to lead better future lives,” Habimana said.
