Defending Champions APR basketball club will today have their hands full when they take on their closest challengers CSK for this year’s league title, the game will be played at Amahoro stadium indoor courts.
The army side leading the championship table with 22 points in 13 games, one point ahead of today’s opponents (CSK), who are in second place and with a game in hand. Today’s game will revolve around the common saying ‘survival for the fittest’.
APR head coach Cliff Owour believes his players will deliver as they have done in dominating local basketball for the last four years or so.
"The game will be a decisive factor on who will be this season’s champion therefore, it’s imperative that we win,” noted the ex-Kenyan international. He, however will be without one of key players Abidanny Bisanukuri , who is carrying an injury.
On the other hand, Owour’s opposite number Prosper Mihigo of CSK is not being intimidated by the fact that his team is playing the defending champions.
"We beat them in the first round and I’m confident we will do the same again on Saturday. We’ve prepared well enough for this game, knowing the impact on the destiny of the title,” Mihigo confidently told this paper yesterday.
KCB, who led the league standing at the end of the first round but are current third, will also be in action against Southern Province opponents Rusizi.
Meanwhile, the women’s action also continues today when defending champions APR take on their bitter rivals the National University of Rwanda. This game will also be played at Amahoro stadium indoor courts.
