Grizzlies vs Sharks

Grizzlies rugby club will be looking for maximum points against Sharks this morning at Rugunga playground aiming to overtake champions Buffaloes at the top of the league.

The National University of Rwanda side is four points adrift of Buffaloes but a win against fifth placed Sharks by a score of more than four tries will take the club top of the league and coach Alphonse Umugire is determined to push Buffaloes all way.

"It is imperative to win tomorrow (today)’s match by a good score so that we move top of the league.

"This will give the team a huge boost. Our target is to challenge Buffaloes for the league title and to do that we have to win comfortably our matches,” the former scrum half said.

Umugire also confirmed that all his players are fit for today’s match.

Meanwhile the rugby federation will hold its Annual General Meeting this morning at Amahoro Stadium to elect a new executive committee. The posts up for grabs include that of federation president, two vice presidents, secretary general, and treasurer.

For the post of president, ardent rugby fan Dr Vianney Otto Muhinda is expected to replace long-serving Alexis Kamanzi. Gerald Nsenga has shown interest in being the National Technical Director. Nsenga is currently one of the federation’s vice presidents.

The AGM is also expected to endorse, for the first time, Honorary and Life Members. These include founder members Alexis Kamanzi and Philip Gakirage. Also on the list is Dave Hughes, who took Rwanda to the prestigious Hong Kong 7s early this year.
