Senators on  Wednesday put campaigning for their respective candidates on the side to officially end their ordinary session that saw them pass nine laws.

According to the President of the Senate, Vincent Biruta, within the two months, the Upper Chamber had achieved a lot in the last two months in line with their core duties.

"The Senate was able to receive reports from its various Commissions, including reports on TIG (works for general interest), election preparations, Project MAP among others,” he said

He reminded the lawmakers that it is from these reports that the Senate made recommendations on on how the government can further improve on TIG and benefit much more from it in the long run.

TIG activities are carried out by people who confessed taking part in the Genocide, and sought forgiveness.
Biruta also pointed out that in this session, the Senate had received Foreign Affairs Minister; Louise Mushikiwabo, who updated them on the current state of relations between Rwanda and other countries.

As part of its duties, the Senate also completed a research conducted on political space in the country, whose results, according to Biruta, would be made public soon.

The Senate also managed to launch a research on equality of rights and its findings will also be made public soon.

The Senators, whose eight-year mandate is not renewable and will end next year, return in October.
