MUHANGA - The business community in Muhanga District has resolved to maintain peace and security during the forthcoming presidential elections, due next Monday.

The entrepreneurs made the resolve on Thursday, during a meeting aimed at mobilising traders to participate in presidential elections.

The meeting held at Gitarama Cultural Centre, was chaired by Mayor Yvonne Mutakwasuku, and discussed security issues, hygiene and the role of residents in preparation and making the elections a success.

Jean Pierre Mutabaruka, the private sector federation official in the district, said that the success and growth of the business community has been attributed to the good leadership and security, unlike in the past years.

"We are committed to working towards promoting peace and security so as to develop and contribute to the current peace efforts of the government,” Mutabaruka said.

Guest speaker on security matters, Brig. Gen. Mubarak Muganga, the provincial army commander, said that the country is determined to maintain current peace and security.

"Do not entertain rumours of people who still portray Rwanda negatively. This country is a great and sovereign state and other countries are learning from our experience of maintaining peace and security for development,’’ Muganga said.

Muganga also reminded residents on the need for peaceful and harmonious elections ‘so as to give a good example and image of country.’

On behalf of entrepreneurs, Fidele Mupagasi, asked members to embrace the EAC common market protocol, adding that there is need to improve service delivery to beat the current competition.

He hailed the government for promoting unity, good governance and education for all.

Mayor Yvonne Mutakwasuku hailed residents for their efforts in improving hygiene in the district.

She requested the traders to plant more trees on the roadside and to speed up the painting of the buildings in the town centre.
