KARONGI - The head of the Muslim community has joined other local leaders in calling upon the public to exhibit a spirit of nationalism and unity during the last days of the presidential campaigns, ahead of next week’s highly anticipated Presidential polls slated for Monday next week.

In his message to Rwandans, the Mufti, Sheikh Saleh Habimana, called upon the Islamic community to join hands with Christians and all levels of government leadership to make a meaningful choice.

"This is the foundation of all developmental achievements. This is the chance that is given to a country’s citizenry to choose a leader of their own choice,” Harerimana said by telephone yesterday.

He challenged all Rwandans to boldly exercise their constitutional right by voting for the leader who will help in improving their social and economic welfare.

In a related development, residents of the Western Province have been strongly urged to actively participate in the forthcoming elections by choosing the country’s president for the next seven years.

Provincial Governor Celestin Kabahizi said, "As one of the provinces with the biggest number of residents, we expect voters to turn up early and in large numbers.”

It is estimated that over 1.2million voters are expected to cast their votes at the 1,071 polling stations in the province.
