The Social Democratic Party (PSD) presidential hopeful, Dr Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, yesterday took his campaign to Bugesera District where he addressed party members who braved the scotching midday sunshine.

The small but enthusiastic crowd of about 300 PSD diehards waited eagerly for their candidate and later broke into a frenzy of dancing and singing when Ntawukuriryayo arrived.

He joined the dancing supporters upon arrival as has been the practice that has characterised his rallies around the country.

Addressing the people of Bugesera, the PSD candidate called upon supporters to vote for him come August 9, so that he can be able to put his good manifesto into action.

"The support you have shown me here should be indicated on the ballot paper on Monday. It is the only way through which I can be able to fulfil these good promises I have made since the campaigns began,” he said.

Ntawukuriryayo expressed satisfaction at the level of democracy in the country and congratulated his supporters for attaining it.

"This is a goal that has been won by the republic of Rwanda. This is the real democracy that PSD and all Rwandans have fought for all this time.”

Ntawukuriryayo, who has promised to improve relations between Rwanda and other countries, has also vowed to increase women representation in decision making organs from the current 30 percent minimum to 50 percent if elected into office.

He told the people of Bugesera that he will build on the already prevailing good governance by sharing leadership with other parties, once elected. Adding that it will be done up from the national level to the village level.

The PSD candidate also told Bugesera residents that once elected President, he will enhance rainwater harvesting in the area and around the country so that people can be able to cultivate all the time using the water to irrigate their plants.

He urged the people of Bugesera to protect the various lakes in the district from soil erosion and turn them into tourist attractions and fish harvesting hub of the country.
The lakes include Gashora and Cyohoha.
