NYANZA / RUHANGO -Liberal Party Presidential contender, Prosper Higiro told residents, yesterday, in Nyanza and Ruhango districts, to vote him so as to implement his party’s development plans for the country.

At separate rallies, he explained why the party did not field a candidate in the 2003 Presidential elections, but chose to support the RPF.

"In 2003 we voted for the constitution, the constitution allowed parties to work at the level of provinces and Kigali City, the party did not have structures at district and sector levels, it was impossible to compete without these structures,” he told about 200 supporters in Nyanza.
Higiro noted his party has been part of the current country’s achievements.

For a country that was coming out of a transition phase, he added, it was required for people to work together.

"A lot has changed now, people have changed, the situation has changed in unity and reconciliation and development, the foundation for Political Party activity has been laid,” Higiro told the rally.

He outlined democracy, justice and development among the party’s aspirations.

"PL is determined to play clean politics, politics that support democracy, good governance, proper service delivery and gender equality,” the 49-year old presidential hopeful told the cheering supporters.

He promised to advance the role of women in education and development, adding that the party will fight gender based violence and all forms of violence against women.

On rural sector development, he said the party will modernise agriculture, and improve education quality with emphasis on practical skills development.

Francois Byabarumwanzi, the Party’s Campaign Manager, said Higiro had risen through the ranks in the party; adding that he is knowledgeable and respected on the local and international scene.

"Vote for him on August 9th because he has the credentials for being President,” Byabarumwanzi said.

Meanwhile, at Kinazi trading centre, Ruhango District, Senator Higiro said that PL has grown popular for the last 19 years and is capable of taking on the country’s top leadership.

”We (PL) are not accompanying any political party,” he reiterated. "This is the time for PL to lead and provide solutions to the problems of Rwandans…” There were over 700 supporters.

This was one of the largest rallies in the province. The seemingly good turn up was attributed to the party’s chairman, Protais Mitali, who originates from Kinazi sector.
Higiro was accompanied by his son and daughter and PL officials.

The team was received amid chants and songs and a number of residents expressed joy at the rally.
Byabarumwanzi, continued touting Higiro’s fond name-’Gikundiro’ literary meaning the ‘loved one’.

He likened the August 9 polling day to a wedding day for Higiro, urging Rwandans to ‘show their love, choice and desire for an experienced and loved leader, through the vote.’

"Higiro has now become the choice of many Rwandans because he has the will and experience, in and outside the country. Your vote will be support to his desire to implement your wishes” Byabarumwanzi said.

During the rally, Higiro also re-affirmed his determination to improve the current status of justice, provide free and skill-based education, health services and infrastructure.
