RWANDA’s top athlete Dieudonne Disi will head to Kenya mid this month to start his preparations ahead of the this year’s Commonwealth Games which will be held in New Delhi, India from October 3-4.
Disi, who is yet to participate in any international competition following his recovery from a hamstring, will head to Eldoret high altitude training center on August 10.
The 29-year-old was due to compete in the 17th African Athletics Championship held last week in Nairobi, Kenya but withdrew at the last minute after a headache two hours before the 10000m race.
"I am going to dedicate these remaining months to intensive training. I believe I can win a medal in Delhi and it is through hard work that I will be enable to win something for my country,” said Disi.
Disi has set Delhi Games to re-ignite his comeback to the international platform. The form APR athletics club star sustained a hamstring injury back in March while running in the Paris half marathon.
Last year, he competed in the World Marathon Championship only to pull out at the 28km mark after stretching a muscle.
He however made up for that slip with a series of victories in October; winning the 10,000m race at the Francophone Games, the Paris 20Km race and equaling the course record at the Reims Half Marathon.
Meanwhile, Rwanda will field a strong team on her debut participation at the Commonwealth following the country’s admission into the family last year.
Swimming, athletics, boxing, table tennis and cycling sports disciplines are expected to field their athletes.
