NYABUGOGO - RPF candidate, Paul Kagame, yesterday, started his campaign trail for the day at Nyabugogo Taxi Park, Nyarugenge District.
Over 40,000 excited supporters, mostly from the downtown business community, turned up to show their support and admiration for the RPF candidate.
Music bellowed from the huge loud speakers as the young and old animatedly danced to the songs praising the RPF candidate, fired up by popular artists including Kitoko, Ms. Jojo and Masamba among others.
When Kagame arrived at around 10 a.m., the mood was already electrifying; Not even the scotching mid morning sun could deter the excited Nyabugogo community.
In his speech, Kagame said that he could not continue bypassing Nyabugogo, as he campaigned in other parts of the country, and he, therefore, decided to make a stopover. He commended the business community for peace and security, championing democracy, as well as being the pillar of the country’s economy.
The candidate added that the country is rich with many opportunities for economic development but exploiting those opportunities largely depends on the decisions they make.
Kagame stressed that Rwandans know what they want more than anyone else, hence no one can choose for them. He urged the community to vote for RPF, come August 9, so as to enable the development path the country has taken to continue.
At the rally, Consolata Mukayisanga, a widow shared her testimony about how she started a tailoring business and is now a leading textile merchant.
Mukayisanga told the audience that as a result of the favourable government policies, she took out a loan, started her own tailoring company, and now successfully competes for tenders to supply schools and government institutions with uniforms.
She added that, after paying back the loan, the profits have not only educated her children, but have gotten her a modern house and a car.
Mukayisanga, thanked Kagame for restoring peace and hope as well as empowering the Rwandan people.
