MUSANZE / RWAMAGANA – The National Electoral Commission, yesterday, sent the final voters’ register for all eligible voters in the five districts of the Northern Province.
According to the register, over 880,000 residents are expected to participate in the August 9 poll.
Speaking to The New Times, Julius Nkusi, the commission’s coordinator in the province, said that 438 polling stations have been established while 2,824 polling rooms have been designated at various sites.
He called upon the local authorities to speed up the construction of infrastructure which will be used at various polling centres.
The NEC official said that university students will cast their votes at the nearby centres within their cells, while ISAE-Busogo students will vote from their campus, which was confirmed as a polling centre.
"The local authorities have done a commendable work in mobilising the residents to organise the polling centres; the final electoral materials are expected to be transferred to the polling centres tomorrow,” Nkusi said.
All the presidential candidates for the four participating political parties; RPF, PSD, PPC, and PL, completed their campaigns in the province on Monday, with the incumbent holding the final rally in Gicumbi District.
Nkusi commended the political parties for the peaceful campaign and rallies, urging residents to maintain order and security ahead of next week’s elections.
