"WITH ballet, technique is everything,” Caroline Joan Peixoto, from the United States says. "You can go to a million studios and they can teach you the steps, but if they don’t teach you how to hold yourself and how to balance yourself and the look that you want to have, then you’re going to be missing half of it.”

The 22-year-old started a ballet school in Rwanda and is hoping to raise enough money to keep it going.
Peixoto uses a sliding scale for tuition. Kigali, the nation’s capital city, is home to a collection of international organizations.

The children whose parents work for those organizations generally pay the most. The street kids, the students who wander up from huts and shacks in the neighboring valleys, pay close to nothing.
