RWANDA emerged 33rd in this year’s Africa Athletics Championship which ended yesterday at Nyayo stadium, Kenya.
With none of Rwanda’s 13 athletes securing a podium finish, the team managed to snatch one point while Kenya continued to prove that they are still untouchable on the continent after amassing 198 points.
South Africa and Ethiopia followed in second and third place with 129 and 85 points respectively.
Neighbours Uganda finished 12th position with 22 points; Tanzania were 26th with eight points while Burundi finished 22nd with nine points.
In the medal standings, Kenya still came top with 25; South Africa finished second with 19 medals, one more than Nigeria who finished third.
On the final day, Jean Marie Uwajeneza clocked 14.22.01 to finish a distant 18th in the men’s 5000m.
Kenyan Olympian Edwin Soy won the race after clocking 13.30.46.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Athletics has until August 15 to decide the host country for the next championship.
