HUYE - With just nine days remaining to the August 9 Presidential polls, Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Presidential candidate, Paul Kagame, continued his campaign trail in the Southern Province where he addressed an estimated 100,000 enthusiastic party supporters in Huye district.

Thousands of supporters started trekking in from all corners of the district as early as 6 a.m. and created an electrifying atmosphere outside Huye stadium.

A giant screen mounted at the venue added to the excitement as the crowd watched popular local artistes like Kitoko, Masamba Intore and Alpha Rwirangira perform RPF campaign songs.

Kagame, who had earlier in the day, held a rally in Nyamagabe District, arrived at about 2.30 p.m. amidst deafening applause from enthusiastic party supporters who braved the scorching sun. They chanted Niwowe, Niwowe gusa, tuzagutora ijana kw’ijana (It is you and you alone, we shall vote for you 100 percent).

Addressing the electrified crowd of supporters, Kagame said that a vote for RPF is a vote for security, development, good education, good health, and all the good things the people of Huye can aspire for.

He said that the people of the district are level-headed and that there is no doubt they will make the right choice, come August 9.

Kagame said that the date will mark the end of the first phase of RPF’s able leadership, and at the same time, signal the start of the second phase of seven years of prosperity where, the achievements attained in the first phase will be multiplied seven fold.

Amidst cheers from thrilled party supporters, Kagame said that the RPF is driven by the desire to give hope and value to Rwandans, as well as, restore their dignity.

He called upon party supporters to celebrate what has been achieved, saying that there is a lot more to come, if they vote for RPF.

Fidel Ndayisaba, the head of the campaign team, said that Paul Kagame has distinguished himself as a capable leader.
"His actions speak for themselves, he walks the talk,” Ndayisaba said.

At the rally, Francois Ntabanganyimana, a member of one of the formerly marginalised groups gave a testimony of how he now has a voice.

"I cannot find fitting words to explain the joy I feel today... it is the first time in history for a person from a marginalised group in Rwanda to stand before such a distinguished audience, you have given me a voice,” he said.

Ntabanganyimana said that groups that were marginalised in the past, have now have been integrated at all levels of local administration and have also benefited from programs such as the One Cow per Household.

"We will be forever grateful, we will demonstrate our gratitude on August 9,” he said.
