Rwanda's Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju, has commended the national U19 Women team as they get set to make history at the maiden edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Rwanda is one of the 16 countries getting ready to participate at the tournament which takes place from January 14-29.

Leonard Nhamburo’s young ladies made history when they defeated Tanzania by six wickets in the final of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in September 2022 to book their ticket to the global event.

The team have been superb during the past four pre-tournament friendlies, winning two matches, drawing once and lost once in a process and, with current run, Munyangaju expressed pride and confidence in the young ladies that they can go on to take over the world Cup by storm.

"Hey girls, we are proud of you! Qualifying for the ICC U-19 Women&039;s Cricket World Cup was not easy but you made it. It is possible to win and make Rwanda proud. The objective is to win!!" Munyangaju posted on her Twitter account on Thursday.

ICC U19 Women’s World Cup will consist of 41 matches that will be played across different venues in South Africa.

Rwanda is pooled in Group B alongside England, Pakistan as well as Zimbabwe in the competition.

The team will Monday, January 15, lock horns with Asian giants Pakistan in their opening Group B game of the tournament that will take place at JB Marks Oval.

They will play their second group game against Zimbabwe on January 17 at NW University Oval before concluding their group stage campaign with mouthwatering tie against favorites England on January 19 at the same venue.
