Twenty-five female football coaches have, since Tuesday, been attending a four-day workshop that ends today.

The course is aimed at equipping them with the basic coaching skills ahead of this year’s national championship, which starts next month.

Majority of the 25 coaches are from the 13 female clubs while others are just female coaches, without any club links but aspiring for professional careers.

"We have decided to include both level-one and none level coaches from around the country ahead of the national championship," said Jules Kalisa, Ferwafa CEO.

The workshop is being conducted by Ferwafa technical director, Michael Weiss assisted by Alloys Kanamugire, Ferwafa officer in charge of football development.

After the course, the coaches are expected to start preparing their teams ahead of a specially arranged tournament later this month whose objective would be to select a national team before the league kicks off next month.

Last year, 11 clubs competed in the third edition of the national championship and four of them dropped out citing financial incapability.

This year, local football governing body, Ferwafa have agreed in principle to cater for transport and meals of all eight teams that will compete in championship.
