KIGALI - Rwanda police officers serving on the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) will this Friday be decorated with medals as a sign of appreciation for their outstanding role in the capacity building for Liberia National Police.

According to Supt. Morris Muligo, who heads the contingent, the medal is a symbol of one’s commitment, dedication and devotion in any Police undertaking in the mission.

The police officers are the fifth rotation to serve in the West African country in peace keeping missions since 2006.

"The group is made up of four officers who are in Liberia training the force that is in charge of guarding the Airport and they have been doing a good job,” said Muligo when contacted Wednesday.

Muligo further said that the Friday ceremony in Liberia symbolizes an addition of yet another accomplishment in Rwanda’s not long but successful peacekeeping history.

Rwanda National Police is currently taking part in peacekeeping operations in many parts of the world including; Sudan, Ivory Coast, Chad, and Haiti.

UNMIL was established by Security Council resolution 1509 (2003) and Rwanda is among many other countries participating in the mission.
