KARONGI/RUTSIRO – As the Presidential campaigns entered the ninth day yesterday, Liberal Party (PL) Presidential aspirant, Prosper Higiro, said that his party will revitalize the educational sector to fit the available labour market once he wins the August 9 Presidential elections.

Higiro said this yesterday at ETO Kibuye in Bwishyura Sector, Karongi District and in Gihango in Rutsiro District where he held rallies. This was his second tour of the Western Province.

He was flanked at the rally by his children and hundreds of supporters all clad in green T-shirts.

"Many graduates have remained unemployed because what they learn in school is not in line with the manpower needed on the labour industry, a situation I plan to reverse once elected” Higiro said.

He added that this will not only solve the problem of unemployment in the country, but will also bring to an end the hiring of expatriates which is a result of lack of local qualified personnel.

The two districts being very hilly, Higiro promised to support the residents to utilize the land regardless of the topography by fighting soil erosion, one of the main problem affecting farmers in the two districts and to develop the irrigation scheme in all parts of the country.

"We want to modernize the country’s agricultural sector to be a business venture and to add value to the produced goods which will fetch high prices on the world market,” he said

Higiro also promised Karongi residents that the financial benefits from the extraction of methane gas in Lake Kivu will first be used to develop the economic sector in the area and the neighbouring districts.
