The Federation of Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) made a budget worthy a staggering Frw1.45 billion for this year’s continental and regional championships.
Speaking to Times Sport on Wednesday, Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa confirmed that budget estimates.
According to Kalisa, the money will cater for the national team’s 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup qualifying campaign that gets underway on May 31.
Part of it will also go to facilitating local clubs; APR and Rayon Sport in the African Champions league and Confederation Cup respectively, which start on February 15-17.
Others area include the Cecafa/Kagame Cup slated for March, GTV/Cecafa Challenge Cup in December and preparations for both U-20 and U-17 youth teams respectively.
The 2010 World Cup/ Nations Cup qualifying campaign would certainly take the lion’s share of the budget.
"FIFA and CAF have changed rules that will see the visiting teams meeting all their accommodation and feeding expenses beginning this campaign, a feat which is likely to take a greater percentage of our budget," Kalisa stated.
Asked where Ferwafa expects or plans to get this kind of money from, Kalisa said they would approach the government and the corporate companies in the country.
"We will get the money for the first game (qualifier), which luckily enough is at home. It’s from the first game that we hope to get more money to fund the away game to Ethiopia," he added.
According to Fifa and Caf new approach, the hosting team would only be catering for internal transport for the visiting team.
